The Select Committee on Police Reform is a direct response to the clear need for reform in our systems of policing and public safety. Though the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Stephon Clark have led to incremental changes, members of our communities, particularly African American males, continue to be killed without due process, adequate explanation or recourse.
The committee will closely examine California's public safety practices and create a new vision with the goal of prioritizing the safety of all members of the public. Broad topics for hearings are expected to include law enforcement hiring and training, as well as options for increasing accountability of agencies and officers to reduce public safety risks.
